"Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention on the present. When you're mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings from a distance, without judging them good or bad. Instead of letting your life pass you by, mindfulness means living in the moment and awakening to experience".
Why is this so important? Please don't pass over this one; think about it and let it set in!
Why do we eat what we do? Yes, the junk food is around us, but it doesn't have to be what we go to. Convenience is huge; "I don't have time to make meals"! Are you stressed, sad, overwhelmed, happy, celebrating, tired, or lost? These are just a few of the many emotions we all go through.
Mindfulness encourages you to pay attention to yourself, your emotions, and the present. Mindful eating would be for you to ask yourself "why am I eating this? Do I want eat this cake or am I upset from losing my job? Is eating this going to help the cause. Is this going to make me feel better?" This doesn't mean deny yourself if you want a piece of cake, it means, paying attention to your emotions and not reacting in a way that is compensating rather than confronting them and accepting them.
